I dream- Ru
I
dream sometimes
Of
rabbit holes and talking moles,
And
fairy statues and china dolls.
Princesses
become Crones or Queens
Never
knights.
A
knight who taught
The
princess to fight
Was slain
The
ground littered
With
forgotten games
And
childish whims
Skeletons
of promises
That
were never kept
I
dream sometimes
Fighting,
tooth and claw,
Hand
and nail.
Biting
and screaming
“wild,
wild child’’
Swathed
in silence
Cut-throat,
catwoman
Cloaked
in twilight.
I
dream sometimes
White
walls, great gates
A
hundred pale faces
A
hundred strange places
Of
reading, reading, escape
Insignificance,
too late
You’ve
chosen your fate
I
dream of smashed bottles, thudding doors
Shattered
mirrors and tear stained floors,
Haunted
eyes, dreams fall apart.
Once
upon a time, there was a hardened heart.
I’ve
stopped dreaming.
